Patients 65 or older must have a written medical clearance from his/her family physician along with the following laboratory tests: CBC with differential, PT, PTT and HIV. If you have hypertension (high blood pressure) or are taking diuretics, a sodium and potassium studies are also necessaries.

Every patient, at any age, with high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, asthma, or coagulation disorders must send a written medical clearance from his/her doctor, with the above laboratory tests.

All patients over 65 or having cardiac problems at any age must have an electrocardiogram (EKG).

These tests should be taken approximately 2 weeks prior to your surgery date. If you do not bring or send the medical clearance with the above tests, we will take you to a specialist to have them done in Costa Rica. This will cost you between $60 to $300 and you take the risk that the surgery could be canceled or delayed because of your medical condition.
